National Academy of Theater Arts in Cracov and Branch in Wroclaw Puppetry Department’ Companies:
Founded in 1972 as a detachment of the State Theater School of Krakow, the Puppetry Arts Department has long been the only institution of higher education for actors-puppeteers. Since 1979 it has been officially included within the Krakow School.
Based on a highly structured teaching method that brings together different experiences and researches effective pedagogical tools for the creation of an artistic product with a high educational value, the training path of the Department aims to stimulate the actors’ imagination, to raise awareness of their perception of space and provide them with the tools necessary for the animation theater. This is an indispensable factor for learning the four main techniques of puppeteers: Java puppets, stick puppets, hand puppets and puppets. In addition to this, students are prepared for acting with anthropomorphic or animal masks.
Individual and original performances form the basis for obtaining the M.F.A. in Puppetry Acting.
